Trans-United - Truckismo
BURNS HARBOR, IN…. Truckismo (pronounced Truck-Ez-Mo) means “Taking on challenges with a high level of service.” This is the mission of specialized carrier Trans-United. The company performs domestic and international moves using flatbeds, stepdecks, RGNs, Conestogas, stretch trailers, and heavy haul trailers up to 10 axles.
Trans-United is the carrier of choice for the Port of Burns Harbor, Indiana and is among the Top 50 Specialized Carriers in the nation. Trans-United hauls commodities from brewery tanks to heavy machinery for industry, and everything in between. The operational area is all 48 states in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Drivers are hired/leased primarily in the Midwest, South, and East to allow for better home time, and as a Family-Owned Company, we understand and respect the importance of being home!
Trans-United has a rich 58 years of history in transportation. The Fleming family purchased the company and its authority in 1978 and remains owners to this day. Second generation family member Jeff Fleming, CEO and President, stated, “We have an old school corporate culture with new school technologies. Our drivers are tough, honest, and ready to get the job done right the first time. Our goal is not to micro mange our drivers, but to give them the tools and support they need to succeed.”
Trans-United hires company drivers and leases owner-operators. One of the unique things about the company is that you can start doing flatbed work and if you like the challenge of specialized, you can switch to specialized, then to super loads as you gain experience. Contractors and company drivers are paid a percentage of the line haul – so when the rates go up, so does your paycheck. Trans-United operates late model Western Star tractors with owner-operator specs. The company owns most of the trailers, but owner-operators are welcome to bring their own trailer, if they wish. Contractors also enjoy fuel discounts through Trans-United, as well as CLC that provides discounts on tires, parts, and load securement equipment. The company is in the process of installing BestPass and PrePass in all of their trucks to save their drivers time and money. Drivers are also rewarded for outstanding performance, measured through their ELD. Financial bonuses are given for saving fuel, safety, and low idle time. They even have in-cab printers to save time.
In 2021, Jeff Fleming introduced “Driver Ambassadors”, a group of drivers who meet once a year to critique the company’s operations and performance, where ideas for improvements are created from the driver’s perspective. These ideas and concerns are presently directly to the President and his Team for review, then implemented, making for solid improvements.
If you are interested in joining the elite group of drivers at Trans-United, you must be at least 25 years of age, with 3 years of verifiable OTR experience and have a good driving record. For information, call 219.762.3111, ext. 235.
