Time to Join Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Truck Convoy
One of the happiest traffic jams of the year takes place every Mother’s Day in Lancaster, Pa.
For 26 years, hundreds of trucks have gathered in a convoy to raise money for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley, a charity that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The event began with one little boy’s wish to ride in a truck and talk to his sister on CB radio and, thanks to the generosity of truckers, has grown into an all-day family celebration that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars. Last year, nearly 400 trucks from all over the country, many of them carrying Make-A-Wish kids, rolled through central Pennsylvania as spectators lined roads and overpasses to cheer.
The Netherlands now holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for “World’s Longest Truck Convoy,” but we hope to win it back this year by drawing 500 trucks. The Mother’s Day Convoy will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at Burle Industries, 1000 New Holland Avenue (Rt.23) Lancaster.
