Eco Flaps: First And Only Splash Guards To Be SmartWay Verified
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay program recently created a new “splash guard” device category in order to distinguish Eco Flaps aerodynamic splash guards on the list of SmartWay verified aerodynamic devices. The fuel saving benefits of Eco Flaps have recently been verified at 1% by the SmartWay program. The innovative splash guards are now the first and only splash guard or mud flap product on the list of EPA SmartWay verified aerodynamic devices.
“Being recognized as the sole splash guard to earn this highly respected verification is very significant to us at Eco Flaps,” said Russell Stubbs, CEO of Eco Flaps. “We are proud to offer a product that will reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and help our customers lower costs on fuel and maintenance while benefitting the environment.”
EPA SmartWay verified technologies receive verification only after they are rigorously tested to demonstrate their ability to save fuel and reduce emissions on heavy duty trucks. Eco Flaps hired Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in Bishop, Tx., to conduct SmartWay verification testing using the EPA testing protocol. The SwRI test results revealed that a single pair of Eco Flaps mounted on a 53’ dry van trailer saved 1.25 percent more fuel than the same trailer fitted with traditional mud flaps.
The key to Eco Flaps’ fuel saving benefits is the patented airflow design, which greatly reduces the drag and inefficiency a traditional mud flap normally would create. This unique venting pattern also drastically reduces road spray hazards by directing water to the ground instead of into a passing or trailing motorist’s line of sight. Eco Flaps are made of a high density nylon polymer, making them resistant to breakage in situations where a regular rubber or plastic mud flap would fail. The company also backs them with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Today, there are more than 200,000 tractors and trailers in North America utilizing Eco Flaps to improve aerodynamics and reduce fuel costs. Eco Flaps are available in a wide range of sizes to meet each truck and trailer’s dimensions. They are also available in custom colors with custom graphics.
