Des Moines Named 10th “Hardest Working City”
INDIANAPOLIS, IN….Freightliner Trucks has announced that Des Moines is the 10th city to be honored by Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities at The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. The program, which launched in 2015, recognizes cities in North America that are fueling economic growth.
The Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities winners are determined by an exhaustive review of approximately 400 metropolitan census areas and 11 different data categories, including unemployment rate, infrastructure investment, and contribution to total GDP. Des Moines is among:
•The top 10% of cities in North America for employed people per household
•The top 15% of cities in North America for heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers and light truck and delivery
•The top 20% of cities in North America for average hours worked, construction employment, growth in total employment rate, and contribution to GDP
The data review shows a strong correlation between work truck sales and thriving local economies, so as part of this program, Freightliner will visit work sites around Des Moines with pop-up food and gift tents to thank workers for their contributions. To date, Freightliner has visited more than 20 job sites and thanked more than 1,000 workers, from contractors shaping their local landscapes to concrete professionals repairing roadways.
“The job site visits are the heart of the Hardest Working Cities program,” said Allan Haggai, marketing communications manager, Freightliner Vocational Trucks. “Thriving cities rely on these hard-working men and women, but often don’t get the opportunity to thank them. We’re happy to get down in the trenches and meet the people who use our work trucks to improve their cities.”
Since its inception, Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities has recognized nine cities across North America: Dallas, Edmonton, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Toronto.
Freightliner Trucks visited Des Moines during the week of the 2017 APWA North American Snow Conference held on April 23–26.
